WV Raman appointed Bengal batting consultant, Shukla set to become coach | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former India opener WV Raman will again be part of Bengal Ranji Teamalbeit as “batting consultant”, for the upcoming season while former state skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla will be the new coach.
“Shukla will be appointed as the head coach of the Bengal team tomorrow. He has been our U-25 coach and most of the players share a good rapport with Shukla who has been a fighter all his life. It is expected that he brings new ideas into the setup of Bengal,” a senior official of the Bengal Cricket Association (TAXI) an official told PTI on Monday.
The decision was taken by CAB chiefs after Arun Lal tendered his resignation after Bengal lost Ranji’s semi-finals to Madhya Pradesh.
“Raman accepted the offer. He would be part of various camps but will not be available during the tournament as that was the flexibility both parties agreed on. CAB President Avishek Dalmiya had called Raman and had asked him if he was available, and he immediately agreed to put on the consultant’s cap,” the manager said.
“Raman has worked as Bengal’s head coach twice and he knows the setup very well. He is basically going to replace VVS Laxman who was the head of Bengal’s 20-20 Vision programme,” he added.
