World Wrestling Championships: Olympic medallist Ravi Dahiya out of medal contention | More sports News

BELGRADE: India, Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya was not in contention for a medal in the world wrestling championships after losing to Uzbekistan Gulomjon Abdullaev in the 57 kg qualifying round on Friday.
While Dahiya made an early exit, naveen entered the bronze medal match after defeating world No. 4 Syrbaz Talgat of Uzbekistan in the first round of the 70kg repechage 11-3.
World number 2 Dahiya lost by technical superiority (10-0) against the Uzbek in a rather one-sided fight.
Dahiya, who won the silver medal at Tokyo Olympics last year, will not participate in the repechage for bronze since Abdullaev lost to Albanian wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov.
On the other hand, Naveen’s win took him straight to the bronze medal match as his next round opponent Ilyas Bekbulatov (Uzbekistan) was unable to compete due to injury.
Dahiya had beaten the Romanian Razvan Marian Kovacs by technical superiority (10-0) in the first round 10-0.
It was never going to be an easy outing for Dahiya as he lost to world No. 30 Abdullaev several times in the past.
Even though Abdullaev got his revenge on Dahiya after losing at the UWW Ranking Series (Yasar Dogu 2022) event in Istanbul in February, the Uzbek couldn’t get past Abakarov, who won by technical superiority (13- 2) to reserve their place in the semi-finals.
Commonwealth Games champion Naveen will face Kyrgyzstan’s Ernazar Akmatalieve in his bronze medal match later Friday night.
