The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of former cricketers VVS Laxman and Daniel Vettori to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee as current players’ representatives. “Roger Harper has been selected as the second former players representative on the committee to join Mahela Jayawardene,” an official ICC media report said.

The ICC Board also received an update from the Afghanistan Working Group and representatives of the Afghanistan Cricket Board provided an update on the situation regarding women’s cricket in Afghanistan.

Representatives from the ICC will attempt to meet with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and government officials to discuss the matter further in the coming weeks.

The growth of global cricket is celebrated as the ICC welcomed its newest members, with Cambodia, Ivory Coast and Uzbekistan all receiving associate membership status.

Cambodia and Uzbekistan are the 24th and 25th members of the Asian region, while the Ivory Coast is Africa’s 21st member, with the ICC now having a total of 108 members, including 96 associate members.

In addition, Ukraine’s application for ICC membership will be deferred until cricket activity in the country can be safely resumed and it can be demonstrated that it meets 2.2(b)(ii) and 2.2(c)(iii) of the membership criteria. ICC continues to support the Ukrainian Cricket Federation during this process,” an official statement said.

Following Russia’s suspension at the 2021 AGM for continued non-compliance with ICC membership criteria 2.2(a)(i), 2.2(b)(i) and 2.2(b)(ii) since July 2019 and after the issues resolved and demonstrate compliance after suspension, Cricket Russia has now terminated its membership of the ICC.
