While Virat Kohli was giving a masterclass in beating Afghanistan in the Asian Cup, his good friend AB de Villiers was delighted to see his former teammate “dance again”. Whether De Villiers was referring to Kohli’s jig at the fold as some Punjabi music blared on the stadium speakers or whether he was dancing across the track knocking the Afghan spinners across the ground on his way to his first international century in nearly three years is not a thing. we can be sure, but the South African battle legend praised it as a “beautiful sight”.

“@imVkohli dancing again! What a beautiful sight,” de Villiers tweeted.

“When I spoke to him yesterday I knew something was brewing,” the former RCB star wrote in a follow-up tweet. “Well played my friend.”

Kohli hit an unbeaten 122 from 61 deliveries in the Super 4 match. This was his first ever T20I century and his first in international cricket since its much-discussed drought began in November 2019.

The star herd now has 71 tons for India.

Kohli himself admitted to being surprised that when number 71 finally came, it came in the shortest format, having never reached the three-digit figure for India in T20Is.

His century helped India to post 212/2 and then romp home to a 101 point victory when Bhuvneshar Kumar made a stir with the new ball.

Bhuvneshwar took a five-wicket throw and Afghanistan failed to recover from its early attack, reaching 111/8 in their 20 overs as both teams’ Asia Cup campaigns came to a close.
