Touching ‘SKY-line’: Suryakumar Yadav is now India’s highest run-scorer in T20Is in single calendar year | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Suryakumar Yadav’s status as India’s top T20I striker in recent times has been reaffirmed as he became the top scorer in a single calendar year with 732 points, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan’s 689 in 2018.
Suryakumar, who scored one of his best T20I half-centuries against South Africa at a crimp track in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, has just 24 runs left to complete 1,000 runs in the format.
His strike rate in 2022 is 180.29, while his career strike rate is 173.35 over 32 games. He has already hit 57 sixes and 88 limits in his career so far.
Coming in at bat in 4th position in the first T20I against South Africa, with India down to 17/2 in the seventh, Suryakumar hit two sixes on his first three balls to give the innings a change of momentum after a slow start.

He went unbeaten on 50 balls from 33 as India escalated the target with over three overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.
With the two sixes at the start of the innings, Suryakumar also passed Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to record the most sixes of any calendar year in the T20I. Rizwan held the record for his 42 sixes in 2021, with Martin Guptill also having 41 sixes in the same year.

Suryakumar has already taken his tally six to 45 in 2022, a record in any T20I, with three more months to widen the gap to Rizwan.
While Rizwan took 26 innings to hit 42 sixes, Suryakumar broke the batting record five times less.
Suryakumar sits second in the latest MRF Tires ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings with 801 points after his half-century in the third and final T20I against Australia in Hyderabad.
