SYDNEY (Australia): Australian cricket legends Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh believe Tim David is due to feature for the Men in Yellow at the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup but could not agree on which player he should replace.
While David only scored 18 points and two in the first two games of the T20I three-game series against India, the 26-year-old showed his top-notch performance with a blistering half-century in the last match of this series in Hyderabad. on Sunday. The Aussie greats were recently asked to name their best Australia XI for the upcoming T20 tournament and the pair agreed David had already done enough to feature.
“Tim David should have a place in this XI,” Gilchrist told the ICC.
“His power and the way he took it… and seeing what we’ve seen of him over the last 18 months all over the world, it’s really in all the different conditions and they (opposing teams) will have scared he’ll come in. It’s a role that Australia has never really tried to fill, to have someone who knows they’ll only have 15 or 20 balls (to make an impact),” he added.
Waugh echoed Gilchrist’s sentiments, although the former right-handed champion said a lot could change by the time the tournament begins in mid-October.
“I have Tim David in the XI at this point. It might change with form, but it looks pretty good to me,” Waugh noted.
