The Asia Cup final will be played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. India, touted as the favourites, failed to make it to the final after winning just one of three matches, while Afghanistan lost all of their Super 4 matches. However, former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has now emphasized how toss played a big part in the tournament. He also stressed that India lost pitches in their three Super 4 games, while Afghanistan lost two.

“Fact that cannot be ignored in this Asia Cup – Teams that have lost the most throws in Super 4s are not in the finals. India lost all 3. Afghanistan 2. Therefore, the spin of the coin cannot decide who very significant advantage. T20 Cricket needs to explore a fairer method,” Manjrekar tweeted.

It is important to note that last year’s toss also played a big part in the T20 World Cup in the UAE, and Australia, which won the tournament, had won the toss six out of seven times.

Before the match against Afghanistan, Team India’s head coach spoke about the Asian Cup debacle, and how not to worry about two defeats in the tournament.

We lost a few games on a field, on a ground that was not easy to defend. Just because we lost a few games doesn’t mean we’re a terrible team,” Dravid told Star Sports.

“I don’t think we need to overreact to things. It’s a balanced environment whether we win or lose. We will continue on the same path and the journey continues,” he added.

India then takes on Australia in a three-match T20I series starting on September 20.
