Sri Lanka, Asia Cup Champions, Name 15-Member T20 World Cup Squad. Premier Paceman Dushmantha Chameera Named Despite Fitness Worries

Recent Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka have announced their 15-man squad for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be played in Australia from October 16 to November 13. Sri Lanka has named Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara in the 15-member roster for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, but their entry will depend on their fitness prior to the tournament.

Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, Dinesh Chandimal, Binura Fernando and Nuwanidu Fernando are listed as players on standby. However, only Bandara and Jayawickrama will travel to Australia with the squad.

Most players of the 2022 Asian Cup are part of the selection. Those who have to miss both the main squad and the reserve group are Matheesha Pathirana, who recently made his Asian Cup debut, Nuwan Thushara and Asitha Fernando.

Dinesh Chandimal, the veteran midfielder who returned to the T20I squad in the Asian Cup, will only find a spot in the standby players.

Key pacer Dushmantha Chameera’s ankle injury has not fully recovered and his return will depend on fitness.

However, the squad has several tempo choices, with Madushanka, Pramod Madushan and Chamika Karunaratne alongside Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, with the latter’s participation also dependent on his fitness.
