NEW DELHI: Former skipper of the Indian women’s team Anjum Chopra is optimistic that Team India will be successful in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, however, she added that her star players like Rohit Sharma, KL RahulVirat Kohli will need to be in his best form and also get adequate support from versatile players Hardik Pandya as the shortest format of the game is quite unpredictable.
The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on October 16 and run until November 13.
“We have seen before that the shortest format of the game is anybody’s game. We saw that recently in the Asian Cup. India are a very good team. But to say that the India have a big chance is to say the other teams don’t have that which I think is not fair to say We want India to win all the trophies but that can’t Even if it sweeps South Africa, it doesn’t really matter because when you’re in another country and you’re at an ICC event, it’s a different ball game. match will be competitive and hard-fought,” Anjum said in an interview with ANI.
“As a cricketer we are supposed to be fit, score runs, take wickets and play well. That is our job as a player. Only if one is fit, then only he/she can survive in a playing XI, otherwise they have no business there. For KL, Rohit and VK to be chosen in a playing XI, they have to be at their best.”
“If you have seen the Asian Cup, there is a place and importance for every type of player, be it KL, Rohit, Pandya or Virat. You will need different types of hitters to make sure your team comes out of a certain situation.” Virat or any of these stars bring an extra smile to our faces while playing. I’m a big fan of Virat and Rohit and they do well and succeed. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a Hardik fan. I hope they continue to do well and win games,” concluded the former Indian skipper.
India have had a lot of training ahead of the World Cup this year. They have won T20I series/matches against Australia, West Indies, England, Sri Lanka, Ireland and South Africa all year in a terrific way. But to the shock of many, T20I delivered its dose of unpredictability when defending Asian Cup 2022 champions India couldn’t even qualify for the tournament final, finishing third in the Super Stage. Oven.
India’s T20 WC campaign will kick off against rivals Pakistan on October 23 and will be eager to avenge that loss of ten wickets last year which ultimately played a big part in their elimination in the Super 12 stage itself.
The men in blue are placed in Group 2 along with Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa and two teams (B1 and A2) who will qualify for the Super 12 after the first round. India will be eager to lift the trophy this time under new skipper and head coach, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.
For that, it will be important for stars like KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav to deliver. While Pandya (436 runs and 12 wickets) and Suryakumar (682 T20I runs in 2022) have been in incredible form all year, plenty of eyes will be on the high-profile order.
Since returning to cricket after a month-long hiatus, Virat has shown big glimpses of his vintage self.
