Bhanuka Rajapaksa came to the rescue of Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup final against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. With his side faltering 58 for five at one point, Rajapaksa led the Sri Lankan offense with an unbeaten 71 from just 45 balls, while the Islanders managed a total of 171 for six in 20 overs. However, Rajapaksa was dropped when he batted at 54. On the last ball from the penultimate over, Pakistani players Shadab Khan and Asif Ali collided deep in the center after Rajapaksa tried to hit Mohammad Hasnain’s throw for a six.

While it looked like Asif was going to pocket the ball, Shadab burst into his teammate with his dive, and the ball slipped from his hands and slid down the rope for a six.

The game was halted for a while and Shadab had to be treated after his head collided with Asif’s elbow.

After being batted, Sri Lanka lost three wickets in the power play and was eventually reduced to 58 for five in 8.5 overs.

However, Rajapaksa set an important 58-run score for the sixth wicket with Wanindu Hasaranga, who hit 36, to help Sri Lanka to a competitive total.

For Pakistan, Rauf stood out with figures of 3-29 from his four overs of pace, while Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed took a wicket each.

In response, Pakistan was 37 for two after the power play with Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman back in the pavilion.

Both were fired on successive deliveries by Pramod Madushan.
