One of Triple H’s exciting new ideas was actually one that Vince McMahon turned down

Triple H made his presence felt at SummerSlam last night, proving that WWE will be different from how it was under Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon retired from WWE last week, so SummerSlam was the first pay-per-view the wrestling giant ever set up without the 76-year-old in charge.

And to the credit of Triple H, Nick Khan and Stephanie McMahon, who now run WWE, last night’s show has been very well received.

Last night’s show felt like a new WWE era for real, and it’s one that fans are quite excited about.

And perhaps the most exciting part of last night’s show came after the opening match, in which Bianca Belair retained her Raw Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch.

At the end of the match, after Bianca and Becky hugged, Bayley made her much-anticipated return to TV after missing more than a year through injury.

She didn’t come alone, though, bringing in former WWE superstar Dakota Kai and former NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai as backups.

Kai was actually released by WWE in April, but with Triple H being a big supporter of her, “The Game” tempted her to come back for this angle.

It was believed that Io Shirai was on his way out of WWE, but the promise of a call-up to the main roster under HHH seems to have convinced her to stay.

Io is now going under a new name and announcing that she will be using IYO SKY, which you can read more about by clicking here.

In another interesting update, Fightful Select reports that the idea for Bayley to lead a faction was actually made several months ago while Vince McMahon was running the show.

However, McMahon rejected the idea, but it clearly impressed Triple H, and he decided to arrange it for SummerSlam.

We heard the stable was set up a while ago – before the release of Dakota – and Vince McMahon turned it down

In another interesting news story, Fightful also reports that original pitches for the group, including Raquel Rodriguez and Kay Lee Ray, before it settled on Bayley, Kai and SKY.

There were other versions that featured Raquel and Kay Lee Ray before being recalled and repackaged respectively.

If you manage to catch the show last night, you’ll be able to watch the event in full, including the hour-long pre-show, now on-demand on the WWE Network.

You can watch all the fallout from SummerSlam tomorrow night on WWE Raw, live in the UK on BT Sport.
