Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad have played a huge role in my cricketing journey: Pacer Mukesh Choudhary | Cricket News

CHENNAI: Chennai Super Kings left arm speed thrower Mukesh Choudhary revealed that Chennai franchise skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and opening hitter Ruturaj Gaikwad have had a big impact on his cricketing career since becoming a member of the squad in IPL 2022.
Choudhary, 26, Maharashtra’s leading wicket taker in the 2021/22 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, was bought by CSK for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs at the 2022 IPL mega auction.
Since then, everything has gone well for the pacer, although his team finished ninth this season. The rapid ended up playing 13 games in IPL 2022, taking 16 wickets with a best of 4/46 and a strike rate of 17.
Despite performing well in the domestic season, Choudhary admitted he didn’t expect to be picked by CSK and then have the opportunity to play in more than a dozen matches.
“I never thought I would play for Chennai Super Kings. When I was on the team bus (for the first time), Dhoni tapped me on the shoulder and I thought: “Oh, it happens to me” and I felt very proud,” Choudhary told chennaisuperkings.com.
Choudhary, who was recently recruited along with Chetan Sakariya as an overseas player by KFC’s T20 Max series in Queensland, said he initially had a few unforgettable outings for CSK after which Dhoni’s heartwarming words gave him confidence .
“In my first two games, I couldn’t perform to my potential. So, I used to talk to him (Dhoni) every day and also between games. Dhoni told me to believe in my abilities. Rutu (Ruturaj) is my friend… so he was always there with me, he supported me and gave me confidence saying: ‘You have everything, you just have to believe in yourself because for every player it happens, where they go through this phase.’ After the Mumbai (Indians) game, I gained confidence and continued to play with that confidence,” added Choudhary, who will also train at Cricket Australia’s National Cricket Center in Brisbane and be involved in the Queensland Bulls pre-season preparations, under the former exchange program with the Chennai-based MRF Pace Foundation.
Choudhary added that for a fast left-arm thrower, the swing is the most powerful weapon in his arsenal.
“For a fast left-arm bowler, the swing is important and the swing that comes in right-handed is very important. The inside swing is the most dangerous ball for any right-handed hitter. Length is important. You have to work on and improve your accuracy and swing,” he said.
