IPL side Punjab Kings appoint Trevor Bayliss as head coach | Cricket News

MOHALI: The IPL Punjab Kings team on Friday appointed Trevor Bayliss as the team’s new head coach ahead of the upcoming season of the franchise-based T20 tournament.
Bayliss will replace Anil Kumble after the former Indian cricketer’s contract was not renewed by the Punjab Kings following a poor run of performances at his side under his management.
“I am honored to be entrusted with the role of Head Coach of the Punjab Kings. A grassroots franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented team of players determined to compete for silverware,” Bayliss said in a statement released by the franchise.

Bayliss will bring his experience winning the 2019 World Cup 50 over with England, two IPL titles with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014 in addition to a BBL title with the Sydney Sixers.
Bayliss was also the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 and 2021 IPL seasons.
Under Kumble’s mentorship, the Punjab Kings had failed to qualify for the IPL play-offs three times in a row.
