NEW DELHI: India’s equestrian team win historic bronze medal on debut in women’s event International Tent Pegging Championship in Wadi Rum in Jordan.
The Indian team included Ritika Dahia, Priyanka Bhardwaj and Khushi Singh.
A total of 14 countries competed and the Indian team made their presence felt from their debut, finishing 136 points behind gold medalists South Africa (170.5) and second-placed Oman (146), according to a press release issued by Equestrian Federation of India.
On the first day of competition, Captain Dahiya and Bhardwaj competed in the individual and pairs spear event. The team was seventh at the end of the competition on the first day.
On the second day, India competed in individual and team epee events and won the second position with 24 points. In the individual event, Khushi Singh took first place with 18 points.
With a strong performance on the second day, India moved up to fourth position in the overall standings.
The team competed in the ring, ankle and sword event on day three and finished second.
The consistent good show pushed India into third place overall for a historic bronze medal on their debut at the International Tent Stake Federation event.
