India vs Australia: Umesh Yadav likely to replace Mohammed Shami | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: while mohamed chamiT20I’s return has been delayed after testing positive for Covid-19, Umesh Yadav is set to be back in white ball cricket for India after three and a half years.
Umesh has undergone NCA rehab after sustaining a quad injury while playing county cricket in England. He has been deemed fit and coaches have opted to try him in the T20I three-game series against Australia starting next week, TOI has learned.
Umesh had last played a T20I for India against Australia in February 2019. His last ODI was in 2018. However, he had a stellar IPL this year. The Indian team’s management and coaches have decided to play it safe by bringing in experienced playmakers after the young squad struggled to handle the pressure at the recently concluded Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The team management had invested a year in Avesh Khan but he too seems to have disappeared from the radar.
“Umesh is fit now. He was invited to join the Indian team in Mohali. Coaches want experienced bowlers in the ranks after the Asian Cup debacle,” a source told TOI on Saturday night.
