HO CHI MINH CITY: India put in a dominating performance but fell short of a victory, playing out a 1-1 draw against lower-ranked Singapore in their FIFA International Friendly Hung Thinh tournament match here on Saturday.
Ikhsan Fandi put Singapore ahead in the 37th minute when his free kick from around 25 yards deflected the Indian wall and beat a diving goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu who could get his hands on the ball but didn’t failed to prevent him from entering the report.
Singapore’s joy lasted just six minutes as Ashique Kuruniyan equalized in the 43rd minute thanks to an assist from the captain Sunil Chhetri.
Jeakson Singh made an interception in Singapore’s half, passed the ball to Chhetri, who put Kuruniyan on goal. Kuruniyan calmly brought the ball home with a left-footed ground player that beat Singapore goalkeeper and captain Hassan Sunny.
India is currently ranked 104th while Singapore is 159th.
Singapore had lost 0-4 to Vietnam in their first match.
India face Vietnam on Tuesday in their last game of the friendly tournament.
