IIT Bombay releases key points for JoSAA

Bombay: In recent years, several students have lost the opportunity to join the top engineering colleges in the country just because they do not fully understand how the admission process works. From not sharing your login ID and password to keeping track of the schedule, from going through the online admission process to paying the fees. The organizing chairman of JEE (Advanced), Suryanarayana Doolla, who is also a member of the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) committee shared important pointers on these aspects.
IIT Bombay released some key points for JoSAA
It is very important to note that the seat assignment process of IITs and the NIT+ system (NIT+ system includes NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IISET) is a complete online system without manual intervention, except for certificate verification, which is also online.
Your future – Be responsible for the choices you make
o The candidate is solely responsible for any changes to the portal in his account
o There were incidents where candidate(s) shared the credentials with friends/parents/relatives etc. and they changed the choices which prevented the candidate from getting the place he/she deserves.
Upload valid certificates at the time of registration
o Please have the PDF version of all your certificates available and upload them at the time of registration for the seat assignment process.
o These are the same/updated version of the certificates you may have uploaded when registering for JEE (Main)/JEE (Advanced)
o In case of OBC-NCL/EWS category candidates, the valid certificate must have been issued on/after 01 April 2022.
o Returning invalid certificates will result in cancellation of the assigned seat.
DO NOT SHARE your login details
o Do not share your username and password with anyone
o Have your mobile number to hand. The mobile number you used for JEE (Main) registration will be useful for generating OTP for password reset, change choices, etc.
· Follow the seat assignment schedule on the JoSAA website
o It is important that the candidates become familiar with the schedule that is available on the official JoSAA website.
o Don’t forget to check the status of the seat assignment immediately after each round.
o If you notice any discrepancy, immediately bring it to the attention of the authorities by sending an email to josaa2022@iitb.ac.in
· How to accept an assigned seat?
o Choose an option (Freeze/Float/Slide)
o Upload the certificates
o Pay the fee
o Reporting online and responding to questions in a timely manner
· Choose an option [Freeze/Float/Slide]
o Please understand these terms carefully.
o Freeze: Use this option if you are satisfied with both the institute AND the academic program you have been assigned.
o Float: Use this option if you want to move to another institution and/or study program from your list (higher preference only).
o Slide: Use this option if you are satisfied with the Institute that has offered you a place and hope for a better place within the same Institute.
o Whenever a seat is assigned, you MUST choose one of the options, which is Freeze/Float/Slide. If you do not choose any of these options, it means that you will decline the offered seat and you will be dropped from the counseling process in subsequent rounds.
o It is your responsibility to check the status of the seat assignment at the start of each round and select the appropriate options (as above).
Pay the fee
o Immediately pay the required seat acceptance fee as published on the JoSAA website.
o If you fail to pay the fee for any reason, your seat will be canceled and reassigned to another candidate in the next round based on merit.
o Do not wait until the last minute to pay the fee.
o JoSAA does not accept any responsibility for delays in payments by banks or technical failures on the part of the banks.
Online Certificate Verification (online reporting)
o Once you choose an option, upload the certificates and pay the seat acceptance fee, your application will be sent to a reporting officer of the Institute where you have been offered admission i.e. Provisional Seat Allocation.
o The officer will review all the documents you have submitted and ask a question if there is any discrepancy.
§ It is important that you continue to check your e-mail and the JoSAA portal regularly for such questions.
§ You must respond in a timely manner before the reporting period ends.
§ If you do not respond to questions and/or provide the required documents, he/she will cancel the assigned seat.
Withdraw/Leave
o If you are not assigned a seat, you can exit the seat assignment process by selecting this option.
o If you are allocated a seat and you want to withdraw, you can use this option. If you choose this option, then:

  • The seat assigned to you will be cancelled
  • You come out of the guidance process
  • Seat acceptance fee will be refunded after deducting the processing fee as stated in the JoSAA 2022 Corporate Rules

o There is no exit/withdrawal option in the last round of seat allocation
