KOLKATA: Croatian Igor Stimac is set to continue as Head Coach of Indian Football Team with Indian Football Federation Technical Committee (AIFF) recommending on Sunday the extension of his contract until the end of AFC Asian Cup in July next year.
The technical committee, which met here under the chairmanship of legendary striker IM Vijayan, discussed the performance of the Indian men’s team under Stimac and recommended to the AIFF executive committee that they continue to lead the business.
This will be Stimac’s third contract extension after taking charge of the men’s national team in May 2019 for a two-year term. In 2021, he got a contract extension for a few months until September of the same year. He was then granted another one-year term extension which was due to end this month.
“In the first agenda of the meeting, the technical committee recommended extending the contract of senior men’s head coach Igor Stimac until the 2023 AFC Asian Cup,” he said. the AIFF said in a statement.
The 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be held from June 16 to July 16, but the venue is yet to be decided after original hosts China withdrew due to the COVID-19 situation. in this country.
