A number of trees caught fire near the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night, just as guests were leaving the evening program.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told… News Kidda that a fire was first reported shortly after 11 p.m. involving 10 trees at the Highland Avenue and Hollywood Freeway site, near the legendary outdoor concert venue. Three fire departments were deployed and extinguished the blaze, with no injuries or damage to the Hollywood Bowl being reported.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, although Humphrey noted that there is an encampment for the unhoused near the site of the fire. The fire was visible as guests left the venue after Sing-A-Long The sound of musica popular annual screening of director Robert Wise’s 1965 musical starring Julie Andrews and won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
“We are pleased to say that the @HollywoodBowl is not endangered and there were no injuries. Three @LAFD fire companies are on site,” the LAFD said Posted late Saturday from her LAFD Talk account on Twitter.
This was followed a short time later by the message“That somewhat persistent fire near the @HollywoodBowl, our 1423rd emergency of the day, thankfully only involves vegetation and has not risen to the level of issuing an @LAFD ALERT.”
The Hollywood Bowl, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, first opened in July 1922 and remains one of Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks. The summer program, which includes a range of concerts, film screenings and other cultural events, is currently underway.
