Ex South Africa Opener Suggests How Babar Azam Can Improve Strike Rate

Pakistani captain Babar Azam has been the cynosure of all eyes until recently as he sat in the middle or purple field in white ball cricket, earning many good scores in successive matches. Most of these came on Pakistani soil and that led to many former cricketers calling for him to be added to the list of international best hitters. His rankings in all formats are also very high.

But that great form completely disappeared when Babar took the field in Dubai and Sharjah to play in the Asian Cup. He led his match to the final, but no points came from his bat.

While Babar’s form is not a major concern for Pakistan as the captaincy is a class act, his success rate could certainly be increased in T20 cricket.

Former South African lead-off hitter Herschelle Gibbs, known for his high batting ability during his heyday, took to Twitter and suggested how Babar Azam could improve his batting speed.

“If babar adds one or two attack options to his game, his attack speed will improve and be even more effective,” Gibbs wrote.

Babar is a technically good batter who plays good cricket shots to get his runs no matter what format he plays. Perhaps Gibbs is suggesting that Babar start opting for a few high-risk adventure shots, which will give him a better chance of scoring, especially while playing top quality bowling strikes on fields where the ball doesn’t hit the bat.
