Enea Bastianini wins Aragon MotoGP as Fabio Quartararo crashes out | Racing News

ALCANIZ, SPAIN: Enea Bastianini won the MotoGP of Aragon with a final overtaking lap after a drama at the start as world champion Fabio Quartararo crashed.
Bastianini shaded Francesco Bagnaia after a nervous duel in the final laps to deprive the Ducati factory rider of a fifth consecutive victory by four tenths of a second.
With Quartararo falling victim to the chaos of the first lap, Bagnaia moved within 10 points of defending champion Yamaha with five races to go.
Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro took third place after a thrilling 15th round of the championship that saw hopes of a dream comeback for six-time world champion Marc Marquez after 112 days out turn into a nightmare.
It was Marquez’s Honda that Quartararo cut, sending the hapless Frenchman sliding down the track.
Seconds later, Japanese Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami also touched down, after contact again with Marquez, who was forced to retire with damage to his bike.
Marquez was back for the first time since Italian MotoGP after further surgery on his right arm which he injured in 2020, was forced to retire with damage to his bike.
