Emma Raducanu surges into quarter-finals at Korea Open | Tennis News

SEOUL: Old U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu reached the quarter-finals of Korea Open Thursday, beating 396th Yanina Wickmayer from Belgium in straight series.
Raducanu, who was knocked out of the US Open in the first round last month, overcame a slow start and late swing to win 6-3, 7-5 in Seoul.
The 19 year old Britishthe sixth seed, will face the third seed Magda Linette then Poland.
Raducanu hit a career-high 10th in the world in July but is now 77th, having failed to build on his shock success at Rinse the meadows Last year.
Wickmayer initially held on, trading breaks at 3-3, before the Briton picked up the pace to take the opening set.
Raducanu carried that momentum into the second set and led 4-1, only to Wickmayer to return to 4-4.
Raducanu was finally successful, breaking Wickmayer’s serve on his way to clinch the set and the match.
