DU aspirants confused with marking system; slam CUET on social media

NEW DELHI: Disappointed with the results of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and the lack of clarity about the college admissions process on Friday, students took to social media to express their views and confusion about college choice. Surbhi Tiwary said students had no idea about the admission process and some of them were forced to go to a local university and not one of their choice.
“CUET was the biggest disaster. Students who would otherwise have been sure of their future and university according to their plans now have no idea. Even the brightest now have no other option, except doing their UG at a local university makes sense” , she wrote on Twitter.
another student Shrabani Singhawho scored an average of 88th percentile after normalization, wondered if she can get admission into one of the colleges of Delhi University under the current method.
Aryaanother such student, who claims to have completed full marks in Political Science in raw score, wrote that his percentile was reduced to 88.9 after normalization.
“I had to appear for the exam twice because one of my exams was cancelled. I can’t believe I won’t be able to make it to Delhi University,” Arya wrote.
He said that CUET and National Testing Agency (NTA) have “shattered all his dreams.”
“This normalization of grades has ruined everything for me. With full grades in two boxes and few errors in others, my percentile didn’t even reach the 90 mark. I’ve worked so hard. My life is ruined,” Arya wrote.
After the CUET results were announced, UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said on Friday that universities will build undergraduate admissions rankings based on “normalized” parity scores between grades and not percentile or raw grades.
Kumar told PTI the scores had been normalized to provide a level playing field for students taking the exam on the same subject on different days or on different shifts.
With the same concerns as Arya, another student Ramandeep Singh asked why his score dropped “in the name of normalization”.
“I scored 200 out of 200 in business administration, but after normalization it has been reduced to 186. Please tell me what could I have done to get a 100 percentile? I studied all day, all night and lost about 50 points in the normalization process,” Singh wrote on Twitter.
Sumati Kapurawho also appeared for CUET and was not happy with the results, wrote: “When I checked my answer key earlier, I found that I had almost no wrong answers. How come I scored less?”
Another disgruntled student, Bhanu Malavaliya questioned the standardization process and called the results “unfair”.
“What is this result? Is this what we call normalization? Hundreds of points have been deducted in the name of normalization. Was it our fault to be in phase one? Dreams of thousands of students have been shattered. This is not fair. We want justice” Malavaliya wrote.
Faria Jahan claimed her score was reduced to 730 from 785 after normalization.
She said: “The results have led us to believe that hard work no longer matters. Normalization was only for a few! The answer key was the worst. I feel completely shattered.”
