Saturday Night Live writers Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy get a boost from comedic celebrities for their feature film debut.
Conan O’Brien, SNL Favorite Bowen Yang, Hacking outbreak Meg Stalter, former The Daily Show Writer X Mayo and Super store alum Nichole Sakura has joined Universal Studios’ untitled buddy comedy. The film is about three childhood friends who go to a nearby mountain in search of a gold treasure that is said to be buried there. Shooting began earlier this month in North Carolina, with: SNL‘s Paul Briganti directs.
Marshall, Higgins and Herlihy wrote the script and starred. The men behind the project became known as the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy. The trio went from making viral sketch videos to writers on SNL to a break-out moment SNL in October with a sketch taunting hard seltzers.
O’Brien, one of the most recognizable faces in late night TV history, continues writing SNL as under his early credits. He closed his TBS show Conan last year, with a maximum of 28 years as a late night host. He currently hosts the podcast Conan O’Brien needs a friend, and its digital brand, Team Coco, was recently sold to Sirius XM. O’Brien is represented by WME, Pariah and 42West.
Yang broke up on SNL and recently starred in the Hulu movie Fire Island and has the universal movie brothers out in Sept. Yang is represented by UTA, 3 Doctor and attorney Isaac Dunham.
Stalter became a favorite on HBO’s Hacking thanks to her portrayal as assistant from hell Kayla. She develops the series Church girls for HBO Max. Stalter is represented by UTA, Range Media Partners and Jackoway Austen.
X Mayo earned an Emmy nomination as a writer in 2020 on The daily show and is one of the stars of the NBC sitcom American cars. As an actor she was also seen in goodbye. X Mayo is represented by UTA, Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
Sakura stars in Hulu comedy Maggie, which debuted earlier this month. She is best known for her work in Super store her credits also include: shameless. Sakura is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Gersh and Ginsberg Daniels Kallis.
Judd Apatow, who has an overall deal with Univeral, produces through Apatow Productions. Jimmy Miller of Mosaic also produces. Universal has its self-titled comedy set set for August 18, 2023.
