Chandigarh, September 22

A day after the management of DAV College, Sector 10, canceled the admission of five students, several students held a protest outside the college today demanding a reversal of the decision.

On Wednesday, the university’s management withdrew the admission of five students, who were allegedly supporters of a student faction, Students’ Organization of India (SOI), for assaulting two students and members of the Hindustan Students Association (HSA).

The five students studied in BA (second year). Their access to the university campus was also banned. The incident took place on Tuesday and these students are said to have brought outsiders into the campus.

The two students were injured in the attack and were rushed to GMSH, Sector 16, where they were treated for head and ear injuries.

“The perpetrators should be put behind bars. We want justice. They have suffered injuries and the perpetrators should be taken into custody,” said one of the HSA supporters.

Meanwhile, police were deployed outside the college as protesting students gathered in droves to block the entrance gate.

“The students have been wrongly entrapped in this case. We want a fair investigation into the matter,” one of the SOI supporters said on the protest site.

Students ‘attacked’ by rivals

A group of students, who were in a car, are said to have been attacked by a rival group at a gas pump in Sector 10 today. No one was injured in the alleged attack.

The car occupants are said to be students from DAV College, Sector 10, and supporters of a student faction, HSA.

“We went to the SSP office when our vehicle was attacked. By God’s grace no one was injured. We were attacked by STI supporters,” said Sahil, an occupant of the car.

The incident was reported a day after SOI and HSA supporters engaged in a fight that left two students injured. A complaint has been lodged about this and the matter is under investigation.
