“Can Be Our Trump Card”: Harbhajan Singh Backs Young Pacer For T20 World Cup Berth

The 2022 Asian Cup ended on Sunday with Sri Lanka being crowned champion. The tournament ended on a bittersweet note for Team India as they failed to make it to the final, but fans also saw the highly anticipated 71st century from star batter Virat Kohli. The Rohit Sharma-led side is now gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup. As the roster for the prestigious event will be announced in due course, pundits and fans have expressed their views on the players who should make the cut. Likewise, former spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed pacer Umran Malik, stating that he could be India’s “trump card” on Australian fields.

“Who all wants to see Mr 150 Umran Malik on the World Cup team for India today?? Could our trump card be on those inflatables in Australia. Any idea?” Harbhajan tweeted.

Umran impressed everyone with his speed during the 2022 Indian Premier League, regularly clocking over 150km/h for Sunrisers Hyderabad, scalping 22 wickets in 14 matches. As a result, the Jammu and Kashmir pacer had made its debut for India during the T20I series against Ireland.

He gave up 98 runs in the two games he played against Ireland and England, taking just two wickets.

As a result, he was kicked out of the team for the T20I series against the West Indies, as well as for the Asian Cup.
