Cabinet nod for signing of guarantees for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup | Football News

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday approved the signing of guarantees for the hosting of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India from October 11-30.
The approval of the Union officeduring a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, came after the reconstitution of the Indian Football Federation (AIFF), which was briefly banned by FIFA last month citing “third party influence”.
India hosts the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai, Goa and Bhubaneswar from 11th to 17th October this year.
Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur said that Rs 60 crore will be spent to host the tournament which will see the participation of 16 teams including India.
A grant of Rs 10 crore to the Indian Football Association (AIFF) for the maintenance of the playing field, stadium power supply, power and cabling, branding of stadiums and training venues will be funded through the National Sports Federations (NSF) Assistance Program budget allocation, Thakur said.
The FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup would encourage more young people to participate in sports and help develop the sport of football in India.
The event will not only promote soccer as the sport of choice among Indian girls, but is also poised to leave a lasting legacy that will help girls and women across the country embrace soccer and sport in general. .
The previous edition of the event was held in Uruguay in 2018 where Spain became champions.
In 2017, India successfully hosted the FIFA Men’s Under-17 World Cup India-2017 at six different venues.
