Cabbie arrested for thefts at 2 IAS officers’ houses in Chandigarh: News Kidda

A 42-year-old taxi driver, out on bail, has been arrested by Chandigarh Police for breaking into the government houses of two IAS officers from the Punjab cadre in Sector 7.

Jaswinder Singh Brar, a resident of Hisar, Haryana, was arrested near Bapu Dham light point while driving a car.

The suspect had broken into the home of Sakshi Sawhney, a 2014 IAS officer currently stationed as Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, in June. He later targeted the home of IAS officer Moneesh Kumar, currently stationed as the Tarn Taran DC.

Gold and diamond jewelry worth several lakhs were stolen from Kumar’s house while he was on his way to Hyderabad with his wife. The incident took place between July 19 and 24.

Jewelry, including gold and diamond ornaments, and three watches were recovered from the suspect.

The police claimed that Brar had confessed to thefts in Panchkula as well.

The accused revealed that he was involved in 13 burglary cases registered in Faridabad, Karnal, Jind, Rohtak, Kaithal, Gurugram and other parts of Haryana. He was released on bail from Hisar prison on May 13.

Aimed at people with unpicked newspapers
