“…Best Thing About His Game”: Bhuvneshwar Kumar On Young Indian Pacer

Young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh showed great determination in the first T20I of the five-game series against the West Indies after being hit for a few limits by opening batter Kyle Mayers. The left-armed Seamer sent Mayers away and then took another wicket in the game to return with numbers of 2-24. Prior to the second T20I, senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar addressed a virtual press conference where he praised Arshdeep.

“When Arshdeep bowls, he knows what he wants to do and he also knows what fields he wants for different batters. This is a very rare quality, when someone is this young, this quality is rare. He has been consistent, he knows what he is doing. The way he thinks about the game is the best of his game,” Bhuvneshwar said at a virtual press conference.

When asked about his bowling and performances this year, Bhuvneshwar said: “Honestly I haven’t changed anything about my bowling, it was just a matter of bowling more. The more you bowl, the more confidence you get and you get back into the rhythm. “Keeping fit helps with bowling. I didn’t change anything special. Whenever I had the chance to bowl at home, I did.”

In the first T20I, Suryakumar Yadav had led off the at bat alongside Rohit Sharma. Speaking of the move, he said: “I really don’t know. But I can say it wasn’t a random move, there was a thought behind it. I’m sure they want to achieve something with it.”

The sailor also said that the game has changed a lot since his debut, which is why the bowlers have added different variations to their bowling arsenal to beat the batters.

‚ÄúSince my debut there have been a lot of changes. When I started, especially in ODIs, 300 was not a par score. But at the moment 300 is a par score. In T20Is, 180-190, every team knows it’s chasable So this has been a big change, as the game continues, bowlers and batters will continue to evolve,” Bhuvneshwar said.

“There have been changes. I’ve learned a few variations, knuckleball, I learned that a few years ago. Every bowler has different variations, we used to know batter took time, but now they start behind the bowlers right away,” he added.
