Assam governor emphasizes the role of education for development

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has underlined the role of education as a crucial driver of socio-economic development and in creating sustainable livelihood and happiness. At the ninth meeting of Assam Down Town University here, the governor said that the education system must constantly address the rapidly changing professional ecosystem to produce employable human resources.
The National Education Policythat aims to develop good people capable of rational thinking and acting must be diligently carried out by the country’s educational institutions, the governor said on the program on Friday.
He expressed satisfaction that in keeping with the spirit of the NEP, Assam Down Town University is in the process of restructuring its curriculum that includes flexibility with a choice-based course structure to provide students with space and freedom to acquire specialized knowledge.
Mukhi congratulated the graduating students and said that graduating was not the end of their journey, but just the beginning.
Their contributions will be assessed and their efforts will be appreciated when they can serve society as a whole, the governor said.
“Words mean nothing unless followed by action,” a Raj Bhavan release quoted the governor as saying.
A total of 1,300 students and scientists received their diplomas.
