Asian Cup qualification should be a regular thing for India: Eugeneson Lyngdoh | Football News

NEW DELHI: Former Indian midfielder, and now member of the technical committee of the AIFF, Eugeneson Lyngdoh said he believed in going through the process without taking shortcuts.
“The national team has been doing well lately. Qualifying for back-to-back AFC Asian Cups is very good for Indian football, and we have to take things forward from here,” he said. Lyngdoh said.
“I think we have to trust the coaches and the players who took us to the Asian Cup and help them follow the process they have set themselves. We cannot look for short-term gains here,” he added.
“We should be at a stage where qualifying for the Asian Cup is a regular thing for India, and for that our national team has to play every international break. That’s the only way for the whole players get better playing next to each other, that’s how the team chemistry will develop,” Lyngdoh said.
“If we do that, I’m sure we can perform well once we get to the AFC Asian Cup“, added Lyngdoh.
The senior men’s national team is currently ranked 104 in the FIFA rankings. However, Eugene, as he was affectionately known in the locker room, is not one to dwell too much on the rankings.
“Rankings are important, but what really matters is how we play. And that will only get better with more games against quality opponents. The team has to grow together, and we have to grow together as a nation of football with them,” said Eugeneson Lyngdoh. .
The new Technical Committee, made up of five former India internationals – IM Vijayan (Chairman), Harjinder SinghEugeneson Lyngdoh, Climax Lawrence and Pinky Bompal Magar – will meet for the first time on Sunday, September 18, 2022 in Kolkata.
Lyngdoh believes that having all these prominent players on the committee will help him make better decisions that will aim to improve the conditions of current footballers in India.
