MILTON KEYNES: Alexandra Pop scored twice as Germany beat France 2-1 in their Euro 2022 semi-final on Wednesday to set up a clash with hosts England in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
Popp put Germany ahead in the 40th minute, sneaking in from the left to meet a fine cross from Svenja Huth and beat Pauline Peyraud Magni with a clean finish.
The lead lasted less than four minutes, however, as France equalized when Kadidiatou Diani unleashed a ferocious push around the corner that rattled the post and flew into the back of German keeper Merle Frohms.
France had the better chances after the break, but Popp won the contest with his sixth goal in five games in the tournament, powering a superb header home from another excellent cross from Huth in the 76th minute.
England beat Sweden 4-0 in the first semi-final on Tuesday.
