Afghanistan on Thursday named their 15-man squad for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which begins in Australia on October 16. Mohammad Nabi, who led Afghanistan in the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup, is returning to the captaincy. Afghanistan will face England in their opening campaign in Perth on October 22. Of the 17 players who were part of the Afghanistan Squad for the recently held 2022 Asia Cup, Samiullah Shinwari, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afsar Zazai, Karim Janat and Noor Ahmad missed, while batter Darwish Rasooli, leg-spinning all-rounder Qais Ahmad and right-hander Salim Safi made it to the 15-man cut.
Rasooli, 22, who made his international debut earlier this year, is making the cut after recovering from a finger injury and putting in impressive performances in the 2022 Shpageeza Cricket League.
Qais Ahmed returns to the squad after last played a T20I against Afghanistan in March 2022, as 20-year-old Safi secured his first international call-up.
In addition, Afsar Zazai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rahmat Shah and Gulbadin Naib have been added to the squad as reserves.

Fortunately, Darwish Rasooli has recovered from injury (broken finger) and we are happy to have him available for the WT20, he has had a good glimpse of him in the previously held Shpageeza Cricket League 2022 and offers an additional hitting option to our mid-order. As the Australian conditions give the fast bowlers more support, we have added Salim Safi, the long right- “We are quick to give our bowling department an extra boost. Overall, we have chosen our best available players for the event and we hope they will do well and better represent the country in the mega event,” chief selector Noor Malikzai said in an official statement released by Afghanistan Cricket Board .
