Chandigarh, July 28

Aakanksha Enterprises has been awarded the bioremediation contract for 7.67 lakh metric tons of residual waste at Dadu Majra landfill. The company has made the lowest bid of Rs 79.68 crore.

While the amount is 17 percent more than the estimated cost of the tender, the municipal corporation would take up the case with the powerful commission and hopefully work out the rates at the firm, sources said.

The MC opened the financial bids tonight. The bids from two other companies, Zigma Global Environ Solutions Private Limited and Bhumi Green Energy, were a staggering Rs 122.76 crore and Rs 126.08 crore respectively. These three companies, out of a total of six companies, had qualified for the technical bids 10 days ago.

The tender has an estimated cost of Rs 67.96 crore. While Aakanksha Enterprises quoted 17,250 percent more than the estimated projects, the two other companies’ bids were 80-85 percent more than the cost.

The company’s previous attempts to finalize an agency for the project had failed. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is partially financing the project. The company has 1048 days to clean up the second and remaining part of the waste in the landfill.

Currently, the clean-up of the waste in the first part of the site is underway. Despite a number of deadlines, the work is not yet completed.
