The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday confirmed the official warm-up schedules for all 16 teams of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with matches to be played in Brisbane and Melbourne. Team India will play warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand in the Gabba, Brisbane on October 17 and 19. The first round teams will begin their preparations in Melbourne, with matches split between the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Junction Oval from October 10-13.
“Teams starting in the Super 12 stage will play all warm-up matches over two match days in Brisbane on October 17 and 19. These matches will be played at The Gabba and Allan Border Field,” an official release said.
The first warm-up will feature two-time champions of the West Indies against the United Arab Emirates at Junction Oval on October 10, with each of the first-round teams playing two warm-up matches each.
Host nation Australia will play their only official warm-up game against India on October 17 at The Gabba. In addition to Australia, the number one in the world India will also play against New Zealand in The Gabba on October 19.
The warm-up games are not open to spectators, but the four warm-up games at The Gabba on October 17 and 19 will be broadcast live by Star Sports, the ICC’s Global Broadcast Partner. Also, the ICC digital channels will feature live scores and match highlights for all matches.
As with previous ICC events, the warm-up matches will not have official T20 International status.
The 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Championship kicks off on October 16 when Sri Lanka takes on Namibia at the Kardinia Park Stadium in Geelong.
